On a beautiful, sunny, if
rather cool morning there was an excellent turnout for the Remembrance
Day Service and Parade at what is currently called the Defence College
of Policing and Guarding, Southwick Park. Present were members of Hants
& Dorset, London & South East and Western Region
Branches. A service in the Memorial Chapel was followed by the
traditional ceremony at the adjacent Cenotaph. The ceremonies were
attended by the three service Provost Marshals and hosted by the
Commandant, Col. S F Boyd.
A multi-service parade was
commanded by WO2 Summerhayes, RMP, and the three services
associations’ standards were paraded. The RAF Police
Association standard was carried by AC James Roper, a RAF Police
trainee who volunteered to use his
experience gained whilst with the Hull Squadron of the Air Training Corps, there being no'trained' members fo the association present. He did us proud. The RAF Police wreath was laid by the Provost Marshal RAF and the Association wreath by John Paice BEM, Chairman Hants and Dorset Branch. At the end of the Cenotaph
ceremony the members of the three associations were marched off behind
the main parade and many of us thought we had joined the Light Infantry
as the pace was so fast! After the ceremonies guests were entertained
to lunch in the main mess where all ranks gathered to be refreshed and
warmed by glasses of mulled wine.
