D FLT RAF SIB DISBANDMENT EVENT – CALLING NOTICE

 

Introduction

 

1.         As a result of the decision to drawdown and disestablish D Flt RAF SIB, it was decided that a disbandment event would an appropriate way of celebrating the past and current successes of the Flt as well as marking the end of a significant period in the RAF Police’s history.

 

Background

 

2.         On the 1 Mar 11, the Provost Marshal (PM) announced that D Flt, RAF SIB RAF, No 1 (S)PW was to drawdown and be disestablished.[1]  This was a highly significant decision given the history associated with the RAF Police’s presence in Germany and across Europe and that D Flt was the last remaining RAFP formed unit serving overseas under the PM’s command.  However, as a result of an in-depth and thorough review of D Flt, the implications of SDSR, the drawdown of British Forces Germany (BFG) and the overall reduction of RAF personnel in Europe, it was felt that UK-based 1(S)PW assets could provide the same level of investigative, protective security and counter-intelligence support to units currently served by D Flt with no significant loss in capability. 

 

Outline of Disbandment Event

 

3.         D Flt RAF SIB Disbandment Formal Dinner.  A formal dinner will take place at the Rheindahlen Rooms, Rheindahlen Military Complex (RMC), Germany, on 26 Jan 12.  The capacity of the venue limits attendance to 100 personnel; priority will be given on a first come first served basis, on receipt of payment.

 

4.         Bus Tour.  A tour of the old RAF Bruggen site (now Javelin Barracks), including the local area, will take place between 1330 – 1700 on 26 Jan 12. 

 

Costs

 

5.         Individual Expense.  The cost of attending the disbandment event will be at individual expense.

 

6.         Travel Costs.  Estimated travel costs from the UK to Germany are at Annex A.

 

7.         Formal Dinner.  The estimated cost of the Dinner (including wine/port during the meal) has been quoted at £22.50 per head and will be of buffet style to keep the costs to a minimum. This figure has been rounded up to £25.00 per head to cover guests[2] attending the Dinner. It will not be clear until after the event but any surplus funds due to returnable wine/port from the Dinner will be donated to the RAF Police Welfare Fund/RAF Police Association. 

 

8.         Bus Tour.  The approximate cost of a 52-seater coach for the period between 1330 – 1700 is €350, this will be covered by the personnel taking the tour and will be payable in advance, once a final price is known.  An unofficial tour guide will be provided by D Flt RAF SIB.

 

Dress

 

9.         Dress for the formal dinner will be No 5 HD (with medals) for Serving personnel or black tie for Ex Serving personnel (with medals). Dress for the bus tour will be smart casual.[3]

 

Cancellation Policy

 

10.       Apart from unforeseen operational, medical or welfare reasons, personnel cancelling their attendance at the Dinner Night from 9 Jan 12 onwards are liable to be billed for their element of the food costs.  Therefore it is strongly advised that personnel attending the event have adequate travel insurance. 

 

Payment

 

11.       Full payment should be made in advance in the form of a UK cheque, made payable to RSU Central Bank.  UK cheques will then be converted at the Forces Fixed Rate, currently €1.14 - £1.

 

Accommodation 

 

12.       It is intended, where possible, for Service accommodation to be made available to those currently serving, however, this is likely to be in the form of transit rooms at RMC and some room sharing may be unavoidable.  To assist Ex-serving personnel and serving personnel who do not wish to use transit accommodation, a list of local B&B’s and Hotels has been provided at Annex B.

 

Attendance Proforma  

 

13.       All Personnel wishing to attend are requested to complete the enclosed Attendance Proforma and return it (together with UK cheques for payment) to the Event Admin/Coord as soon as possible but no later than 12 Dec 11.

 

Confirmatory Instructions

 

14.       Confirmatory instructions will be promulgated during the w/c 9 Jan 12 by e-mail, therefore a current e-mail address is required.  In the meantime, any questions pertaining to the event should be directed to the appropriate POC detailed below at paragraph 12.  It is the responsibility of the individual concerned to notify Event Admin/Coord of any change in their e-mail address prior to the dissemination of the confirmatory instructions.
